October surprise?

Does anyone remember allegations of an October surprise in 1980? The story was that George H. W. Bush supposedly flew to France to meet with representatives of the Ayatollah Khomeini, in an attempt to prevent the release of US hostages before the US elections. There is no credible evidence that it happened, but if there had been, there would have been an impeachment.

There may not be anything to this, either, but it warrants investigation.
WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

...

While in Iraq, Obama also tried to persuade the US commanders, including Gen. David Petraeus, to suggest a "realistic withdrawal date." They declined.

Perhaps someone needs to remind Mr. Obama that a) the President of the United States is the Commander in Chief and dictates foreign policy and b) he is not the President.

One wonders whether the mainstream press has enough resources to spare from the Palin investigation to look into these allegations...
