Free Roberto Petagine!

In 307 at-bats from 1994-1998, Roberto Petagine compiled a Major League stat line of .225/.346/.371 which isn't very good. But the at-bats were spread in little dribs and drabs over 5 Major League seasons and 4 different teams. Over the course of those seasons, he demolished AAA pitching. From 1999-2004, he was one of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball in Japan. He came back and signed with the Red Sox in the off-season, and then missed a chance of making the Major League roster because he had knee surgery during spring training. So he came back and has destroyed AAA pitching. Again.

Well, today, he's finally getting a call-up with Boston, as John Olerud's going on to the DL with a sore hamstring. And he probably won't get a chance to play now, either, though many of us think he's as, or more, likely to be productive than Kevin Millar...
