Red Sox odds and ends
Some Red Sox odds and ends, looking back at the weekend series with LosAngelesAnaheimCaliforniaLosAngeles...
- "Deep Throat" told Woodward and Bernstein to "follow the money". Anyone that wants to know what happened in the Red Sox/Angels series this weekend needs only to "follow the bullpens".

The Red Sox' bullpen blew up on Saturday and the Angels won. The Angels' bullpen blew up on Friday and Sunday, and the Red Sox won. - I don't know what the Major League record is for 3-run homers allowed, but Alan Embree's got to be making a run at it. He's allowed 3 run homers to Reed Johnson, Gary Sheffield and Garret Anderson in his last 6 outings, covering only 4 2/3 innings.
- The shortstop shuffle hasn't worked out very well yet for either player (or team). Renteria signed as a free agent, replacing Cabrera, so Cabrera moved on to LA/A/C/LA. They've both been bad (though Cabrera's been worse). Over the weekend, neither did much of anything. Cabrera was 3-13 on the weekend, Renteria took Saturday off and was 1-9.
- In the 4th inning, Renteria, attempting to take advantage of Dallas McPherson playing back, tried to bunt for a base hit, as he'd done against Baltimore on Thursday afternoon. He popped up to the catcher for the first out. Had he done that on Thursday, the game would have ended with Ortiz in the on-deck circle. If he's only going to succeed on 50% of those attempts, he certainly got the success in the right spot. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good...
Chris Lynch is looking at the Red Sox, so far, over at A Large Regular.
