Reality squashes yet another Democrat storyline...

Do you remember how the left demonized George W. Bush for eight years? Remember how he was trampling all over the Constitution with his military tribunals? Remember how Guantanamo was a scourge upon the face of humanity, a veritable second Auschwitz? Remember how Obama was going to close Guantanamo within his first year in office? Remember the "fierce moral urgency of change?"

Yeah, never mind...
Attorney General Eric Holder today will announce that self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad will be tried in a military commission, the CBS News Investigative Unit has learned. A source says the commission will be held at the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Holder is expected to announce the decision in a news conference today at 2 p.m.

Trying Mohammed in a civilian court and closing the Guantanamo prison were once some of the Obama administration's top priorities, but political realities have hamstrung both goals.
The true lefties are not happy about this. The Obama kool-aid cultists are in favor of whatever he chooses to do. Now those of us on the right who approve of both of these policies should be applauding. Right?

Not so much. For a couple of reasons.

One is that this is going to be done without any word of apology to George W. Bush or Dick Cheney or Don Rumsfeld or anyone else associated with that administration for the dishonest slander campaign which was waged against them. If they were really, honestly opposed to these policies, and have changed their position after being faced with the issues involved in implementing alternative policies, common courtesy requires that they say something to the effect of, "maybe the Bush administration wasn't the moral equivalent of the third reich." I'll put any amount of money that there will be no such acknowledgment or apology coming.

And the second reason that, though I agree that these are the right policies, I'm not going to applaud is that the policies are so obvious in the first place, and the opposition to them was so clearly dishonest and partisanly political, or disingenuous at the very best. Their behavior on these issues prior to assuming office causes them to forfeit any good will which they might feel they merit for coming, no matter how belatedly, to the right decision.
